CranioSacral Therapy

An extremely gentle form of 'whole body' treatment that was developed an osteopathic physician John E Upledger. It is a "hand on" therapy focusing on the subtle movement of cerebrospinal fluid that bathes and cushions the central nervous system – the fluid flows between the cranium and sacrum.

Craniosacral treatment involves a very gentle touch of the therapist's hands upon appropriate parts of the body, usually including the head and spine, in order to perceive this 'CranioSacral motion'. Whilst every life experience has an influence upon this movement, it is the most traumatic that leave a lasting impression, leading to dysfunction and, ultimately, symptoms of illness and disease. Therefore, by working with this inherent motion, CranioSacral Therapy can help us to let go of restrictive patterns and to experience better health.

Some reasons why people seek treatment:
Aches & pains, back problems, muscular tension, stress, headaches, migraines, TMD (jaw dysfunction), post-operative recovery, pregnancy, colic and glue ear, any problem of mind-body trauma.

Cost/session length:
Any first appointment will require a full consultation including medical history. If you have received a previous treatment with us this will not need to be repeated in full, we will confirm any changes since your last visit.

Adults & older children - £35 (initial 60mins, no charge for the consultation), follow ups £35 (45mins).
Young children (10 and under) - initial session £25 (45mins), follow ups £20 (30mins).

Reflexology
A brief history - Reflexology has both Western and Eastern origins, sharing its development with a number of different and ancient cultures. No one culture or period in history can claim to be the founder of reflexology. Reflexology as practised today in the Western world was significantly influenced by American ear, nose and throat Consultant, Dr William Fitzgerald, who developed and researched into the theory of zone therapy. This zone therapy work was further developed by Dr Jospeh Shelby Riley who went onto make detailed maps of reflexes on the feet, hands and ears.

Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist who worked closely with Dr Riley in the 1930's became a pioneer of the treatment. She made a distinct separation between work on reflex points and zone therapy, developing what she called compression therapy before renaming it Reflexology. Working on hundreds of Dr Riley’s patients she found that an alternating pressure had the effect of stimulating and healing.

Reflexology does not claim to "cure", but numerous disorders seem to respond
well to the therapy, which seeks to restore the body's natural balance thereby supporting the body's in built ability to heal.

Most commonly, the feet are used as the areas to be treated. However, the treatment can be completed on the hands if necessary or preferred.

What can you expect?
On your first visit a full Consultation including your medical history will be completed with the therapist.

Clothes do not need to be removed for this treatment. Prior to the treatment your therapist will examine your feet.

About the Practitioners

Ruth Bowhill, FHT, MICHT, MFHST

My first career spanned 28 years, culminating in a Senior Leader role in the RBS group running a Business with over 300 staff. I became interested in energy therapy in 2003 when I experienced for myself the dramatic and rapid benefits of a therapeutic approach that integrated both the physical body and emotional thinking. This experience led to me studying Kinesiology and completing a practitioner course in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Since then I continued and continue to study new therapies, launching my private home practise and more recently establishing the Therapy Room here in the Galleon Hotel & Leisure Club.

Offra Giles, FHT, MICHT, MFHST

My introduction to the world of natural healing and a healthy life style was initiated in consequence of my husband’s discovery that the standard pharmaceutical treatment for colitis didn’t help but enlightened changes in diet did. That was 35 years ago. Since then I have studied many methods of treating a wide range of maladies by methods alternative to conventional medicine. I have experimented myself with many different diets and have passed on the knowledge so acquired to hundreds of people. During the same period I acquired a number of therapeutic skills such as massage, reflexology, remedial exercises and cranio-sacral treatments that I have used either as alternatives or supplements to dietary advice.

Ruth and I met at a soft-tissue massage course that both of us attended recently. We discovered common therapeutic goals and interests that have led to our decision to set up a clinic that will combine our talents and experiences. Our principal goal is holistic care of our clients with utmost professional integrity. We aim to provide a service that will give you, our client, the experience of total relaxation, relief from aches and pains, whether physical or emotional, and the total release from accumulated stress.

I look forward to meeting you in our therapy room down at the leisure centre.
