Top Tips

Write down your goals

Put them somewhere that will remind you, try to make YOUR GOALS specific, achievable, measurable and put a time limit on it!  For example, instead of just "I want to get fit", this goal might be "I want to run 3miles, none stop, by the end of June", or "I want to lose 1 stone of body fat by August for my wedding", or "I want to do 50 pressups within a minute by end of next month".  This will focus your attention and you can pat yourself on the back when you have ticked off your goal!  When you have hit your goal, write another to take you to the next level...

Variety is the spice of life!

The over ridding reason people join a health club, then stop coming a couple of months later is because of boredom! If you turn up every other day and do 20mins on the bike, then a 20min swim, you'll soon by pulling your hair out at the thought of going coming to the club to exercise, therefore you stop coming and the results stop with it! There are so many things here at The Galleon to try or do differently - just give something different a go and you might find your results fly through the roof!  If you're stuck for ideas, ask a personal trainer... try powerbag, a different group fitness class, kettle bell training, core training... there is so much to do here...!

Train with a friend...

Training with someone else always make you turn up more than just having to rely on yourself. Click here to refer a friend to join The Galleon with you, the more you come, the better in general your results!

Carl's Top Tip - A picture is worth a 1000 words!

Training Top Tips

Use photos of yourself to keep you motivated! Take a photo of yourself in a swimming costume or underwear and place it somewhere you'll see it every day, this will act as reminder why you should be exercising. Then every month, take another photo and place it next to the one before - you will notice the difference even if the scales tell you otherwise! As muscle weighs more than fat, it could be that you are the same weight, but you look a million times better!

Stewart's Top Tip - Hydration

Training Top Tips

Athletes can improve athletic performance through the benefits of drinking water or sports drinks. Good sports hydration is critical for maximizing athletic performance.

The best way to prevent dehydration is to stay hydrated throughout the day, whether it’s a training or competition day or a rest day. It’s best to make a conscious effort to drink water regularly throughout the day, and to drink every few minutes while working out or competing.

Consider drinking a sports drink instead of water during or after a workout also replaces essential electrolytes.

Following exercise habits & routines that can become boring for along period of time may conclude in the body becoming bored & stunt fat burning. To start acheiving maximum results, try altering the emphasis of your workout every 8-12weeks. Some examples of this maybe to change from slower to more intense CV training such as interval training on a treadmill, or emphasis weight training more, or take up a different group fitness class.  By doing this, the results from the mind and body will be great.
